I gotta give a HUGE SHOUTOUT to North Mille Lacs Ice Fishing. These guys have been putting in some work to ensure the ice is safe. As the conditions change daily, they continue to keep checking the ice in all directions and update folks for safe travel. Stay tuned for some BLA ice updates this weekend.

We’ve still got some ice that is on the fence in tge BLA. I am out checking a smaller lake between Brainerd and Crosslake area this morning and it does not give me high hopes for strong ice before New Year’s.  Please take proper safety precautions to ensure you have a fun and safe fishing experience this year. 
The fruits of yesterday’s labor…fried fish in the tacos with home made aïoli and pico de gallo. And if you’ve never tried smoked walleye, then you need to reach out to get my recipe. 🤤
And that’s a wrap for our 2025 open water season. (Warning, some walleye were harmed in the making of this post 🫣) 52 degrees and sunny with just a very slight breeze, and some nice eyes chomping…sure made for an incredible last trip out. I finally got my brother in the boat, along with a good friend and local hero. We kept 4 fish and let double that go to fight another day. Now bring on the ice!
I had a heck of a day out with a buddy today. We found’em, and sat on them until they finally started to bite, and when they did (oh boy). We released probably 10 fish as big or bigger than the one my buddy is holding in the picture. Thank goodness for this last stretch of good weather, but the breeze sure made it 🥶! A couple more days and the boat should be parked for the season.
